How did Adolf Hitler get German citizens to give up their liberty for security?

Fear. When Hitler first came into power he would go from town to town, just randomly grap 2 or 3 people, hang them, and leave them for everyone to see. This creates fear for people to rise up against and fear is a dictator/tyrants best weapon. If your citizens fear you, they WILL NOT REBEL!
