Have I blown my chances of being admitted to grad school with my low GPA?

I just graduated college (ohio state universty) with my degree and a 2.78 grade point average. Due to several combined factors my gpa suffered some hits...my mom got cancer half way through school, as well as athletics. I am determined to get into the best grad school I can to ultimately get my MBA but I know they are very stringent on who they let in espically when it comes to GPA. At this point is there anything I can do to increase my chances? or is my GPA so low that i would be wasting my time trying?
